Artisans hand-tuft \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/wool-rugs\"\u003e100% New Zealand wool\u003c\/a\u003e into a cotton canvas backing using a hand-held tufting gun, then carve every curve by hand.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe twist is the difficult part. Where the ribbon folds, all five bands have to narrow and widen together in proportion — if one band keeps its width while the others taper, the fold stops looking three-dimensional and the whole illusion collapses.
